Don't be against treatment for mental health if you don't understand it.

There are posts circulating that should not even exists!

Mental health isn't just some made up thing to help sell drugs. It is a real illness and real illnesses need real treatment. It is sad to lose such a prominant figure in society to what we assume is caused by depression and anxiety. It's even more tragic if you think of the loved ones he left behind and the fact that he was loved by so many. But by far the most tragic aspect of it all is that there seems to be the idea that it isn't the aspects of mental health that caused this horrible tragidy, but the medication that he was on.

I for one can absalutely declare that this is a false argument that is made by pseudoscientists so they can sell stuff to put more lives at risk. Today I saw a post on Facebook that infuriated me and insulted the work of so many people in the world. It was a meme that suggested that Chris Cornell's recent passing was a result of his medication for anxiety that caused him to commit suicide.

I am no expert on pharmaceuticals and definately not a psychiatrist, but as far as I know, no one has commited suicide because the medication made them do it. The medication exists to help those suffering from mental health to overcome it. Chris Cornell's death was insensitively used to argument on behalf of the pseudoscientists and personally I find it in bad taste.

It is bad taste because milions of people rely on medication to go through life and accomplish their dreams and without it, they might not have the will to even get out of bed. It is in bad taste because IT is an insult to the good people who have made an effort to get treatment for thousands of people who can otherwise not even look at themselves in the mirror. It is in bad taste because facts have been falsefied and twisted just to accuse a theoretical conspiracy theory using the tragic deaths of a great musician and a rolemodel to other people.

Did you know that mental health is not just imaginary? It is a chemical inbalance that causes shifts in brain activity. It is a real illness that needs real treatment to be controlled or it will put skmeone's life in danger. Did you know that 1 in 5 adults in the USA (approximately 43.8 million) people suffer from mental health illnesses of which barely a quarter receive adequate treatment. Millions of people go untreated and unprepared and most of it is thanks to generalized stigma of medication and the supposed "big pharma" conspiracy. I for one would much rather have people get the correct medication and have a better chance at a happy life and a successful career than people who rely on pseudoscientific nonescence to sell bullshit theories and devices for profit and kill people in the process. "Big pharma" capitalizes on bad health not dead people.

No one wins with suicide and the worst thing we could do is insult the mental health community and their progress by suggesting a walk in the park or a kitten as a way to recover from serious illnesses. There are better ways to save a life than suggesting the medication they use to have a better life is false and a far more better way to support mental health than insulting the people who work day and night to make people aware that this is real and it is dangerous.

If in the future you see a post about mental health medication, consider what it means and what it does to your community to lose a loved one. Think about the disgusting use of another one's tragidy to advocate your argument and whether that is justifyable or not. We live in a time where information is available with a simple google search. I suggest we use it and scrutinise over the consequences of our actions before we become responsible for the injury or deaths of many more loved ones.
